I would like to nominate Clif Cox to run for the EMS board.

Clif is an essential champion for the maker community here in Eugene and a
seemingly endless source of support.

I met Clif by chance on an open hack night after I had just moved to Eugene
and he eagerly showed me around the space, connected me with other sharp
chaps, and took a keen interest in the success of my projects.

Without his leadership it's unlikely that my projects would have succeeded.

I hope he accepts the nomination and that you will join me in re-electing
him to the board.

Y’know, I’m a bit of a noob in the Eugene Maker community (though a non-boob when it comes to makerdom in general) and I’m not that hip to EMS procedures, but if nominations call for a second, I’d like to second Michael’s nomination of Clif Cox. Without Clif's enthusiasm and persistence, I wouldn’t be involved here at EMS at all.

Hi Folks,

I appreciate all the supportive comments. Though after a lot of soul
searching, and considering all the great people running this year. I
didn't want to take a slot away from anyone else by running. I've talked
to many of the candidates and I think EMS is in good hands. I realize by
respectfully declining my nomination I'm not giving the membership the
ability to decide for themselves, and I'm sorry about that.

If you have the time, get to know your candidates, ask questions, or you
could browse some of their posts.

Have a great election, and may the best candidates win! :-)

Clif,

I know that wasn't an easy decision. It will be interesting to see how
dependent the organization has been on you and how it evolves from here
on out. Thanks for getting us this far.

I used to be a member of EMS, and happily advertised it to others till I ended up being on the receiving end of the disfunction this community has.

My project at the time, before even starting on it, was criticized front of others by one of the board members who I came to find with time had much manipulative control of the decision making and tech side of the organization.

I raised my complaint to two of the board members and they acknowledged the disfunction and while sympathizing with my experience they pretty much left it there. To some the disfunction and unprofessionalism is less of a pain or maybe even attractive then the pain of standing up for principles and seeing to it that the necessary changes are made.

I sincerely hope that the newly elected candidates will bring on the desperately needed changes that will cause many of us from the sidelines to come back and give EMS a chance again.
